Changelog

New features and improvements to Fotante.

v16.4LatestPhase 16.4 · April 2026

More ways to act on a photo or video.

Copy a direct link to any item with one click — the button is in the sidebar header next to Download.

Open original in new tab

Open the full-resolution file directly in a new browser tab via a secure signed link. Useful for RAW files and high-res photos when you want pixel-level detail.

Quick export

Create a secure, shareable export of a single item without leaving the viewer — full resolution, no watermark, 30-day expiry. The export shows up on your Exports page.

Restore from trash

When you open a trashed item, the Trash button becomes a Restore button so you can recover it in one click without navigating to the Trash page.

v16.3Phase 16.3 · April 2026

Snapshots create real photo versions, and timezone-aware dates.

Snapshot creates a linked photo version

Capturing a frame from a video now creates a full photo item in your library, linked to the video as a version. It inherits the video's GPS, date, and event.

Make standalone

Any version in the version strip can now be unlinked and turned back into a standalone item with the new Make standalone button.

Timezone-aware dates

Captured date now shows the local time at the location where the photo was taken — including the timezone abbreviation (e.g. 2:14 PM JST).

v16.2Phase 16.2 · April 2026

Dark mode is fully live.

Full dark mode

Every screen in the app now supports dark mode — including the item viewer, modals, and all settings pages. Toggle it in the sidebar footer or Settings → Account.

v16.1Phase 16.1 · April 2026

Dark mode, smarter library, and full privacy controls.

Dark mode

Choose Light, Dark, or Auto (follows your system setting). The toggle lives in the sidebar footer and your choice is remembered.

Sort and filter your library

Sort by date taken, upload date, filename, file size, or quality — and filter to items with GPS or detected faces. Your choices persist across page refreshes.

Privacy controls

Opt out of face detection, delete all your face data, request a full data export, or permanently delete your account — all from Settings → Account.

Tall video fixed

Portrait and tall videos no longer clip out of frame in the viewer. The capture-frame thumbnail button now stays visible regardless of video dimensions.

v14.2Phase 14.2 · April 2026

Upload notifications and smarter duplicate detection.

Upload complete notification

When a batch of uploads finishes processing you now get a bell notification instead of a workbook banner — less disruptive, and it stays in the bell so you can check it later.

Better duplicate detection

Duplicate groups now show a similarity percentage (Nearly identical, Very similar, Possibly similar) and the highest-quality photo is always the recommended "keep" choice.

v14.1Phase 14.1 · April 2026

Settings cleaned up, Trash and Exports now in the sidebar.

Settings reorganised

Settings has been trimmed from 10 tabs to 5 — Account, Plan & Storage, Library, Notifications, and Developer. Everything is easier to find.

Trash in the sidebar

Trash is now a dedicated page accessible from the sidebar instead of a settings tab.

Exports in the sidebar

Exports has its own sidebar page too — no more hunting through settings to find your download links.

v14.0Phase 14 · April 2026

Search nearby on the map and clearer upload progress.

Search nearby on the map

Click anywhere on the workbook map to drop a radius circle and filter the sidebar to photos taken within that area. The count updates in real time.

Processing progress on thumbnails

Items actively being processed now show a spinner overlay on the workbook grid, so you can tell at a glance what's still in the queue.

Retry and Remove only on failed items

The Retry and Remove buttons are now only shown on items that have actually failed — they're hidden while an item is processing or published.

v13.0Phase 13 · April 2026

New sidebar, mobile navigation, and outage transparency.

Mobile navigation

Fotante now has a proper mobile layout — a top header and a bottom tab bar replace the desktop sidebar on small screens.

Service status banners

If a feature (uploads, downloads, sharing, exports) is temporarily offline, a banner tells you what's affected and links to the public status page at fotante.com/status.

Public status page

fotante.com/status shows live health for all services and a recent incident timeline — no login required.

v12.1Phase 12.1 · April 2026

Stuck uploads self-heal, maps load reliably, and the item viewer shows a loading indicator.

Processing items no longer get stuck

Uploads that stall mid-processing now automatically show as failed after 10 minutes, so you can re-upload without waiting or wondering what happened.

Loading indicator in photo viewer

While the full-quality version of a photo is loading, a small "Loading full quality…" pill appears in the corner so it's clear something is happening.

Maps work without CDN

The workbook Map tab and GPS correction tool now use a self-contained tile map — no external scripts required. Maps load reliably regardless of network or CSP restrictions.

v12.0Phase 12 · April 2026

GPS tools improved, smarter location display, and infrastructure upgrades.

Interactive GPS correction map

The GPS correction tool now shows a live interactive map. Click anywhere to drop a pin, or drag it to fine-tune. No need to type coordinates manually.

Precise location display

Location now shows the specific place name — airport, landmark, street — not just the city and region. The Google Maps link also uses exact coordinates for a precise pin.

Remove GPS

A new Remove GPS action is available on any photo that has location data, letting you strip coordinates and place names in one click.

v11.0Phase 11 · April 2026

Billing is live, AI got smarter, and a few quality-of-life upgrades.

Location-aware AI analysis

The AI vision pass now reads your photo's GPS data and geocoded place name, so descriptions mention specific landmarks, streets, and neighbourhoods instead of generic scenes.

Brand keywords

A dedicated Brands section in the item sidebar. AI-detected brands auto-populate as blue pills; you can also type your own. Brand tags are stored with a "brand:" prefix and searchable independently.

Video frame thumbnail

Pause a video at any moment and hit the camera button to capture that frame as the item's thumbnail — no more relying on the auto-generated first-frame.

Download usage meter

Free plan users can now see their monthly download usage in Settings → Usage. The meter resets at the start of each calendar month.

Clerk Billing live

Plan upgrades and the Max tier are now active. Your current plan shows correctly on the Settings → Billing page.

v10.0Phase 10 · April 2026

Add more storage, access the API, and see your download usage.

Storage add-ons

Pro users can now purchase additional storage in 500 GB or 1 TB blocks directly from Settings → Billing. Stacks on top of your plan's included storage.

Developer API

A new Developer plan gives programmatic access to your library via the Fotante API. Create and manage API keys in Settings → Developer and track per-key usage.

Download usage meter

Free plan users can now see their monthly download usage in Settings → Usage. The meter resets at the start of each calendar month.

v9.0Phase 9 · April 2026

Keep your library safe with content reporting.

Report content

A Report button is now available on any item. Use it to flag inappropriate content, spam, or copyright concerns — our team reviews all reports.

v8.0Phase 8 · March 2026

Smarter GPS, a cleaner selection toolbar, and a wider sidebar.

Place name storage

GPS data now captures the specific venue or address name — like a hotel, airport, or street — stored separately from city and region for richer location detail.

Faster GPS correction tool

The GPS correction tool now loads instantly with a static map preview and improved place search, replacing a slow embedded iframe.

Wider item detail sidebar

The detail panel on the right is wider and easier to read — more space for metadata, tags, and actions without scrolling as much.

Simplified selection toolbar

The multi-select toolbar is pared back to essentials — count, clear, trash, and publish — so the most important actions are always front and centre.

v7.0Phase 7 · March 2026

See what's coming and get accurate pricing.

Public roadmap

Fotante now has a public roadmap at fotante.com/roadmap showing what's shipped, what's coming soon, and what's on the horizon — no dates, just direction.

Redesigned pricing page

The pricing page has been fully rewritten with accurate plan details, storage add-on options, B2B plans, and a developer pay-as-you-go section.

v6.0Phase 6 · March 2026

Usage at a glance, better faces, and keyboard shortcuts.

Usage dashboard

A new Usage tab in Settings shows your storage, item count, plan limits, and library tools — including AI analysis and face detection — all in one place.

Face-cropped thumbnails

Faces on the People page are now cropped to the detected face region so you can tell who's who at a glance instead of seeing a full uncropped photo.

Select all shortcut

Press ⌘A (Mac) or Ctrl+A to instantly select all loaded items in the workbook. Press Escape to clear the selection.

Notification bell everywhere

The notification bell is now visible on every page — not just the workbook — so you'll never miss an AI analysis or export notification.

v5.0Phase 5 · March 2026

iPhone photos at full quality, more formats, and failed upload visibility.

Full-resolution iPhone photos (HEIC)

HEIC photos from iPhone now display at full 12 MP resolution. Previously, only a small embedded thumbnail was shown instead of the actual photo.

More file formats supported

Added support for AVIF, Fujifilm RAF, additional RAW formats (Nikon NRW, Pentax PEF, Panasonic RW2, Samsung SRW), and more video formats (3GP, M4V).

Failed uploads now visible

Photos that fail to process no longer silently disappear. They now show in your workbook with an amber "Failed" badge so you know which items need attention.

v4.0Phase 4 · March 2026

Upload limits, free plan optimisation, and a critical media loading fix.

Free plan file optimisation

Free plan uploads are stored at optimised quality to keep the service fast and affordable. RAW files, HEIC, and video are never compressed. Plus and Pro plans always store the original.

Per-plan upload size limits

Upload size limits are now enforced per plan: 25 MB for Free, 100 MB for Plus, 500 MB for Pro. You'll see a clear error if a file is too large for your plan.

Media loading fixed

Resolved a bug where photos would fail to load in the workbook and show "Internal server error". All media should now load reliably.
